Proposed Course Offerings for November-December 2009

Crochet Fundamentals – 4 classes - $45
Wednesday mornings 9:00 to 10:30 am
November 4, November 11, December 2, and December 9
(no class November 18 or November 25)
This course is for the novice to advanced beginner. There is no prerequisite for this course.

You will learn how to hold the yarn and make standard crochet stitches and shape. You will begin to read patterns and understand when crochet might be preferred over knitting, and you will see some of the unique things that can be made with crochet. Depending on the progress of the group, you may tackle some simple projects. If you have something you wish to make, please bring it up in class.

Because learning the fundamentals is so important, and everything can’t be mastered in only four weeks, most crochet students will take this course at least two times,* with beginners learning from the more advanced students and the more advanced students benefitting from reviewing the instruction given to the beginners.The more advanced student will work with colors and texture and learn how to make squares, work in the round, and make more exotic shapes.

 Hats, Hats, Hats (knit or crochet) – 4 classes - $45

Thursday mornings 9:30 to 11:00 am: November 5, November 12, December 3, and December 10
No class November 19 or November 26
Prerequisite: For knitters, mastery of the concepts taught in the Knitting Fundamentals course. For crocheters, mastery of the concepts taught in the Crochet Fundamentals course.

We have patterns, or you can bring your own.  Use up scrap yarn, novelty yarn or something new.  Knit or crochet, or a combination of both.  Straight pieces that you sew up or done in the round.  Beanies, watchcaps, berets.  With or without tassels or pompoms.  Adults, children, babies.  For yourself, charity or a gift (we won't tell).

Thursday mornings 11:30 am to 1:00 pm: November 5, November 12, December 3, and December 10
No class November 19 and November 26
Prerequisite: For knitters, mastery of the concepts taught in the Knitting Fundamentals course. For crocheters, mastery of the concepts taught in the Crochet Fundamentals course.

Each student will begin (or continue) a personal project, and we will work on choosing yarn, gauge swatching, pattern modification, trouble shooting and putting everything together, as each student benefits from the issues faced by the others.

As this will be a hands-on support class, with no specific teaching curriculum, the class size will be limited to 6 students, so sign up right away. This will be an ongoing class, so you can take as many 4-week sessions as you wish. No discount is available for repeats of this course.

Knitting Fundamentals – Not offered

Everyone who took this course has advanced to project level (!) Waiting for new students to accumulate. Next likely date for this course will be January 2010.

Maximum fee for three or more (unlimited) courses in one session: $125
10-class bonus:  After taking 10 classes, students may take one additional class free-of-charge
