Crochet Fundamentals - Homework #3

With worsted weight yarn and a size G or H hook, make a slip knot and chain 23 stitches.

Turn your work and insert your hook in one loop of the fourth chain from the hook and make a double crochet. Do this same thing in the next 19 loops, for a total of 20 double crochets. Don't forget to go into that last tight loop at the end. Count as you go, to be sure you have made 20 stitches, and not only 19.

Chain 3 and turn your work. Insert your hook under the top two strands of the second stitch from your hook, and make a double crochet. Continue across 19 more times, for a total of 20 stitches. Again, make sure you go into that last loop at the end. If you don't, you will have a piece that becomes a triangle, instead of remaining square.

Do at least 20 rows of double crochet, concentrating on these techniques:

1. Keep the loops loose enough to insert the hook, but not much more than that.

2. Make stitches all the same size.

3. Master your tension so you can tighten up and let yarn go, as needed.

4. Always catch the last stitch so your work remains square.
